Design and Planning – Arts and Crafts End Tables

My wife and I are planning to remodel our basement.  The remodel is, in part due to some water damage.  The more significant part of the remodel is that I will have a much larger, dedicated shop space.  Currently, my workbench is sitting out in the middle of the living area of our finished basement (my wife is soooooo understanding).

Because of the remodel, we are going to need a pair of end tables to go along with our futon.  We have decided to go with an Arts and Crafts style design because it suits our sensibilities.  Building these tables will be my first furniture project, and I can hardly wait to get started.  Here are a couple of images showing some of the details of the design.

If you would like to see more details, I will be adding a post with a link to a Sketchup model of the design.

These tables will be made from quartersawn white oak, which is traditional for this style of furniture.  I’ve already selected the lumber.  Once the weather here in central Ohio clears, I’ll have a chance to pick it up.  It will need to acclimate to the humidity levels in my basement for a couple of weeks and then I plan to start the building process.

In the mean time, I’d love to hear your thoughts.  What do you think of the design?

    Should be fun.
Did some very similar end tables about 2 years ago.
Rockier has a couple Stickley drawer pulls in their outlet section on their website you may want to check out.
    Happy New Year.

I didn’t know you had water damage in your basement. Real bummer! I think I’m reading the post backwards. LOL I now realize these are for downstairs. :0) I love the style and I know they will be wonderful when you complete them!
